Report Shows Strong Investment in Green Energy
A United Nations investors’ summit, held earlier this week, were surprised with the news of green energy reaching a new high of £169bn invested last year; despite facing pressures from a poorly performing global market and reduced support for renewable energy in the US Congress.
The increase in investment, 5% more than the increase in 2010, looks to be driven by a strong solar power industry. Data from Bloomberg New Energy Finance shows investment into solar technologies, like solar PV systems, and risen 36% to a high of £88.8bn.
The figures were presented to 500 global investors, meeting at the UN summit, in an effort to encourage further growth in green industry; in an effort to combat climate change.
Ceres sustainable business group, the group who organised the event, stated that they wanted to build momentum and interest before heading into the Rio sustainability summit, to be held in June.
